Roundtable pizza cook
So I keep seeing these Roundtable pizza commercials for the new meatball Pizza. In one there is a handsome mustached guy in the kitchen and he stops and smiles at the big guy that is talking to the pizza. Any idea who he is? | | Sunday, February 8th, 2009 | | 6:16 pm |

bad apple
When you are a child, certain memories and sensations stick with you. As a child I played at the farm near our house, and they had a corn silo where silage was kept for the cows. We used to play in there all the time, and the smell of the stuff is something that stays with you. Well, the other day I bit into an apple that I bought at the store, and the taste was just like the smell of the corn silage. What could possibly have happened to that apple to have it taste that way? I threw it away. In the past I have had the same experience with at least three other apples (I think that they were all Fuji's, but I am not 100 percent sure). Rest in peace, Majel
Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away today at the age of 76 from leukemia. She will always be Nurse Chapel to me, although I kinda grew fond of her Luxwanna Troi character towards the end of Star Trek, The Next Generation. She has now gone on to join her husband Gene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy. Rest in peace, dear sweet lady. Current Mood: nostalgic | | Friday, June 13th, 2008 | | 2:09 pm |

...and extra penis for everyone!
Were home! Larry and I just got back from a nice short trip back east. It was the 50th wedding anniversary for his mom and Dad, Linda and Larry Sr. And it was my first time meeting them. I had met two of his sisters (Sherry and Laura) on the visit back east last September. But I had just missed his sister Tammy and her husband Bob and their kids, and Larry's mom and dad. They had apparently made a trip back there without telling anyone in advance, and so we had no idea they were going to be there. Oh well, sometimes things happen. Anyway, our trip started on June 4th, and on our flight there, we had a layover in Atlanta. And as is par for the course with a big airport, there were delays and cancellations due to weather. When we arrived, we were told our connecting flight would be leaving on concourse C, gate C-14. When we got off the plane and looked at the monitors, it said concourse E, gate E-35. We peed, found a smoking lounge and had a pipe, then proceeded to concourse E. On the way, we spotted another monitor and now we were leaving out of gate E-33. When we arrived at the gate, the lady there told us that yes, the flight to Albany was leaving from there, even though the sign read Columbia. Then people started showing up for their flight to Peoria, only to be told that their flight was now at a gate on concourse D. And a little while later, all of those same people for the flight to Peoria were back at gate E-33 boarding their flight! Surprise, surprise! So, eventually their flight left, and ours was ready to be boarded. Usually they board you by zones, but on this flight , it was "just get on the plane!" So we did. The poor flight crew had been on 4 other flights that day and welcomed us to our flight to Providence, Rhode Island. After a few seconds, they corrected themselves, but then the pilot said the same thing. Eventually, we were assured that the flight crew knew we were all going to Albany. The flight attendants advised us that they would be doing the beverage and snack service, and because we had been delayed and tormented for so long, everyone would be getting extra penis! Wow, such a deal! I was looking forward to this, wondering if I would get to select which one I wanted! There was laughter all around and when the flight attendants made another announcement about the snack service, they enunciated the word "peanuts" very carefully! The trip was nice, Larry's family greeted me and treated me as family, and the anniversary dinner and party went off okay. The one thing that turned out bad was the weather. It was almost 100, and with over 40 percent humidity. We suffered. We drove to Massachusetts to visit my family, and just like our visit in September, we had a BBQ and it was fine until a thunder and lightening storm came over and forced us all into the garage. But it was a nice visit. We returned home on the 11th, and Larry was vary happy to see his little kitty again! Extra penis, anyone? Current Mood: relieved | | Sunday, April 20th, 2008 | | 1:25 pm |
And the dophins came to give him a sendoff
James Bailey was a great man. He came to stay with my sister after his live-in lady friend Myra, who was suffering from diabetes, had to be put into a care home. Jim was starting to suffer the early signs of Alzheimer's and needed to be cared for. Myra passed away in the care home, but Jim was able to go visit her from time to time while she was still alive. My sister Sharon took him in, along with his dog Lucky, and he became part of our family. His daughter adopted us like brother and sister, and many times we brought Jim up to her house in Sonora for a holiday meal and we were treated like family. Jim's disease progressed slowly, but there were many days of clarity that amazed us. He would tell us stories from his military days, or his youth while living in San Francisco. And then, there were days when he just could not remember. Sometimes he asked when we would be taking him back home to San Francisco. He lived and worked there as an ironworker on the Golden Gate Bridge when it was built. He had a great memento from the Ironworkers Union when he retired, a piece of bridge cable mounted on a little plaque. He also had a very cool picture of him at the Presidio with his military graduating class. Some days it was very sad. When his dog passed away due to a prolonged illness (he had gone blind and deaf and could not be cared for any longer), he would forget and ask where Lucky was. We would tell him, and he would cry as the memory came back. Then ten minutes later he would forget and ask again where his dog was. This went on for many days. My sister had her own dog Clancy, and eventually Jim accepted him as Lucky. Then when Clancy developed a disease we had him put down also, the cycle started all over. He had difficulty remembering who some people were, but for some reason remembered me right away, and always teased me about my beard and shaved head. Every time I came over to visit, he would ask me if I had forgotten to shave. I always grinned, rubbed my shaved head and stroked my full beard and said No, I think I got it just right. Most days he had a good day. He would carry on with my sister, with sometimes crude humor. But he was fun to be with. He was with my sister for 6 years. In the end, a bacterial infection got him. He passed swiftly, so swiftly that I was unable to get to see him, and even his daughter missed his passing. She was out of town and unable to return. But her husband Jerry was there to see him, as well as my sister Sharon. His wishes were to be cremated, and have his ashes scattered along with Myra’s in the San Francisco Bay. Sharon, his daughter Shawn, her husband Jerry, my partner Larry and I went out on the Neptune Societies boat The Naiad on April 18th at noon time. We got out just past the Golden Gate Bridge, read some words and poured the ashes over the side of the boat. Sharon had brought some flowers from her beautiful garden, and we threw them overboard, to float with the ashes on the water. Then, as if on cue, a pod of dolphins arrived, as if to escort Jim and Myra to King Neptune’s realm of the deep. A fitting tribute to a wonderful man. After we arrived back on shore, we had a nice lunch and remembered Jim Bailey. He was 92. | | Monday, April 14th, 2008 | | 8:57 pm |

Half a century sounds so old, but...
On April 10th I turned 50. Yes, hard to believe, but I have reached the point where people start thinking retirement. I only wish that I could retire this soon! It's easy to be reminded of my birthday. That is the same day that my property tax bill is due. A nice Happy Birthday reminder from the county always cheers ones heart. "It’s April 10th, give us money!" 2ndbanana (Larry) and I did not do anything outlandish to celebrate. He got me the 3rd season of Battlestar Galactica! Now we are watching it feverishly so that we can start watching the 4th season (which I am recording on my old technology VCR). And we went to my sisters for dinner, came home and watched TV and had leftover cake that I got at work. Oh yeah, work. Last year I helped to decorate a co-workers desk who turned 50. We had lots of black balloons and streamers and stuff. And a cake with vultures and RIP signs. He saved those decorations and adorned the chocolate cake that they got for me this year. It was a nice day. Larry and I will go out either tonight or sometime this next week for a nice dinner. On Friday (the day after) we attended a birthday bash downtown for a friend (Dave Kline) who was having a 40th birthday. His wife rented the club Old Ironsides and they had lots of local band talent there to wish him a happy 40th. He was very gracious and also had the crowd sing me Happy Birthday too. That was nice. We all had a great time. Overall, a nice way to start my 50th year on the planet! Current Mood: chipper | | Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 | | 9:41 am |

I pissed on God
I work in a big government building with about 3500 employees. A while back, while taking a pee break, I noticed that someone had recently visited the men's room and left a few religious pamphlets on the counter with the word God on the cover. Now, in the past I have been known to rip down pamphlets and advertisements of a religious nature when I found them staring me in the face on the break room bulletin board, and on this occasion I picked up the pamphlets and deposited them in the trash can. A week later, I stopped in the same men's room to pee, and found a copy of that very same pamphlet floating in the bottom of the urinal that I was peeing in. It seems that I am not the only state worker who feels the same way that I do. Don't get me wrong. I have beliefs and am very happy with the way I am and I believe. And I keep them to myself. If you want to stop and pray, on your break, in a quiet room away from everyone else, then that is fine. But don't push your beliefs and pamphlets and "God Bless You" on me. I did not ask for them and do not want to have to hear them or read about them in my work environment. Smile, and have a nice day! Current Mood: amused | | Thursday, November 15th, 2007 | | 5:17 pm |
Battlestar Galactica Season three
Okay, Battlestar Galactica is gearing up for Season 4 Razor. Larry and I have watched seasons 1, 2 and 2.5 on DVD. I contacted Universal and they have no plans at this time to release season three. So, did anyone out there happen to record season 3? If so, let me know. i would love to be able to get a copy of it to watch while at the same time recording the newest seasont o watch at a later date. Thanks! | | Sunday, November 4th, 2007 | | 10:34 am |
Waterboarding
Gee, I have an idea! Let's use this very same technique, the one that the attorney general nominee does not seem to know if it is torture or note, let's use that on him to help him to decide. Seems fair to me! If he almost drowns and does not believe that it is still torture, then try again, over and over, until you get the answer that you are looking for. This is a no-brainer! So who protects me from the virus protectors?
On Saturday my sister called and asked for some help with her dishwasher. The way it was configured, it was draining through the vent onto her counter. Not a good deal. So I and Larry went over and looked at it, and hooked it up like mine was (with no vent). Then I went home to check online for some information. Well, as you can guess, I found more than I was bargaining for. A virus called Hacktool was loaded into my key registry file three times (or three different versions of it). But hey, I have Norton Security and so i should be cool, right? In fact, a scan by Norton found the virus! But wait. The Norton tool informed me that the virus could not be removed and I would need to get further assistance. What could this mean? So, I started a chat session with Norton and was connected to Sunil. You can guess from where. After being very "helpful" by telling me (with canned responses) all about the bad things that can happen to my computer by downloading files, he finally asked me what he could do to help. Gee, I wonder why I was trying to contact them in the first place. Not to just chat with someone for whom English is a second language. Well, he dropped the bomb by telling me that yes, they could remove the virus, but I would need to pay a fee for this "paid consultation service." The fee was $99.95. Now, I pay them a monthly fee through EarthLink and thought that this would be covered. But alas, silly me, I was wrong. To quote Sunil, "When you purchase the product, the cost of the product is for the software, updates to the software and for the virus definitions. Apart from this, there is an additional charge for value added services." Value added service. I like that. Being fearful of letting the virus stay on my PC, I bit the bullet and paid them. I was then connected to Harish. He worked his magic, taking control of my PC remotely and deleting allot of temporary files, and also cleaning out the registry where the virus had attached itself. Gee, I really need to learn PC helpdesk. He spent about 20 minutes doing this, and then he was done. I don't know if I will have any other troubles since those files were deleted. So, obviously I was wrong about what value having Norton was. And I used to have McAfee and got screwed by them when it started to quarantine all of my email and a weeks worth of working with various peoples from India on the phone netted me nothing but grief. I know that there are other programs out there. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be a good anti-virus software? Current Mood: crappy | | Saturday, May 19th, 2007 | | 7:34 pm |
